Matthew’s Sermon

March 10, 2010 § 2 Comments

Matthew preached at our church, The Gathering Community Church, on Sunday. Click the link to listen to his sermon titled Why Love Remains on 1 Corinthians 13.

Here is an excerpt from the manuscript:

…love is the appearance of the eternal in time. The manifestations of the glories that are to come are not found in prophecies, tongues, and words of knowledge, but in love. Love is the manifestation of heaven, because the love that exists in heaven and the love that exists in us, is the same thing. Spiritual gifts are not this way. Spiritual gifts are not the eternal in time. With a Spiritual gift, you don’t see the thing itself, you see a portrayal of it.

Matthew, I just listened to your sermon. I was really encouraged by it. I appreciated your honesty regarding your own struggles with loving sinners, and your truthfulness in calling your listeners to love those that have historically been shunned by the Christian community. I also appreciated your plea for gospel-centered parents to be faithful image-bearers by ‘always and anyway’ loving their children. Thank you for taking the time to prepare this message, and for sharing it on your blog.
