Simple but Profound Child Training Lesson

December 11, 2009 § Leave a comment

As young parents, my wife and I quickly have fall into the ditch of disciplining our kids too quickly. It’s not that their behavior shouldn’t be addressed, rather the manner in which we address it.

Too often we expect our children to understand something that we have never taught them. We expect them to act respectful when we are in the grocery store, yet we haven’t cleared taught them how to behave in a grocery store.

I have found that the Teaching, Correcting, Disciplining model works well. We teach them how to act, we correct them as they are learning to act the way we are teaching them, and then once they have learned we discipline then for disobeying.
